Outdoor entertainment is the work Black Stag is best known for — and the work our clients tend to ring up about first. A custom-rendered outdoor fireplace with a sandstone hearth. A poolside cabana with built-in bar and spotted-gum lining. A complete alfresco zone with pergola, kitchen, fireplace and integrated lighting, all working as one space.

Every build is designed around how you actually want to use the space. The fireplace gets sized to the people, the cabana gets positioned for the view, the lighting gets layered (ambient, task, feature) so the area looks as good at 9pm as it does at midday. Structural landscape design — sandstone walls, gum-tree retention, integrated planting — ties it all together.

We co-ordinate every trade: gas plumbing for the fireplace, structural carpentry for the cabana, electrical for the lighting, landscape for the planting. One team accountable for the whole zone. No 'sorry, that's the gas plumber's problem' nonsense.

Most outdoor-entertainment builds are quoted as a single fixed-price scope and run 6-14 weeks on site. We handle DA approval where needed (cabanas above the exempt threshold, gas fireplaces requiring sign-off).

Custom Render Fireplace

Charcoal or natural-render finish, sandstone hearth, gas or wood-burning. Sized to the entertaining area, built in-situ.

Poolside Cabana

Spotted-gum framed cabana, charcoal-clad exterior, timber-lined interior. Built-in bar, lounge area, integrated lighting.

Outdoor Kitchen

Charcoal-finish cabinetry, stone benchtop, integrated BBQ/wok/sink. Built into the alfresco as one structure.

Structural Landscaping

Sandstone retaining walls, integrated bench seating, designer pathway lighting, gum-tree retention, native planting.

Design + fixed-price quote

Full design package including 3D visualisation, material specs, lighting plan, DA paperwork where required. Fixed-price quote covering every trade.

Build

Luke co-ordinates every trade in-house. Excavation, structural, gas, electrical, finish carpentry, landscaping — one team, one timeline, daily clean-up.

Handover

Walk-through, gas certification, electrical certification, defects list, Master Builders 6-year structural warranty. We're around long-term for any issues.

FAQs

What clients usually ask

How much does a custom outdoor fireplace cost?
Depends on size, finish and gas vs wood. A standard freestanding rendered gas fireplace with sandstone hearth typically runs $18-32k built, including gas plumbing and finish.
How long does a full outdoor entertaining build take?
Around 8-14 weeks on site for the full package (pergola + kitchen + fireplace + lighting + landscaping). Smaller scope (just a fireplace, or just a cabana) can be 3-5 weeks.
Do I need council approval?
Cabanas above 25m² usually do. Fireplaces under specific thresholds usually don't. We handle the paperwork either way — included in the fixed-price quote.
Can you build to an architect or landscape designer's plans?
Yes, regularly. We work to existing architect/landscape plans, or design the build ourselves where you don't have a separate designer.
Gas or wood-burning fireplace?
Gas is cleaner, easier, no smoke management. Wood is the proper experience but needs flue, ember management, and council sign-off in most LGAs. Most of our builds are gas.
What about pool integration?
We work alongside pool builders regularly — coordinating the deck, cabana, fireplace and landscaping around the pool. We're not pool builders ourselves but we work seamlessly with the trade.
